“Pairs”

Museum Ludwig

In this ArtTalk, we’ll reflect on various modes of pairing or couples. From conventional and unconventional images of the “couple” as seen through the eyes of a wide range of artists in Museum Ludwig, to other kinds of pairs or figures which are often portrayed together. We’ll move on to less usual modes of representation in which artists depict pairs on a functional level or as culturally normed pairs of objects and/or ideas. Questions will be raised about the formal relationship between the figures and the ground in the artwork and we’ll consider some light gender issues of the body and space.
