Come discover the world of la Bohème! La Bohème is an utopic artistic idea! The Bohème represents life in Paris of last century in which artists celebrated their colourful free lifestyles. The invention and advancement of photography is used to capture stylized Romantic portraits, costumed fancies and outrageous parties. The earliest technical examples of this media is shown in rare Daguerreotypes. They are presented here in the show in encased black columns. Indeed, there is quite a showcasing of unusual and rare reproductions on display. Many big-name artists, writers and poets of the day took advantage of modest cost and posed for a picture! From the artist Paul Gauguin playing the piano in his underwear, to portraits of Picasso, to the Bauhaus band – a large number of extraordinary, funny and delicate photographs are on temporary display in Museum Ludwig.
