How to look at and appreciate Abstract Art

Museum Ludwig

Good abstract art is not easy to come to terms with.

At best, both intellectual and emotional meaning is present but not shown through objects or figures that we recognize. We’ll begin the ArtTalk with the first hesitant experiments into Abstraction from the 1900’s and move through the  new hanging in Museum Ludwig where we’ll examine paintings made in the heyday of Abstract Expressionism.

By the end of the session, participants will have created their own strategy for looking at and assessing abstraction.
