Chargesheimer: The Nonconformist, who likes to rock the boat.
Muesum Ludwig
Chargesheimer the bad boy of post-war German photography, was born in Cologne where he lived and documented urban life, jazz – he played the sax – Karneval and more. He recorded the changing face of city and was fascinated and repelled by the changes made by the Cologne city planners. Always the cantankerous trouble-maker, he nonetheless persuaded many prominent politicians of the time to pose for his camera lens. His innovative photo experiments are surprisingly abstract compositions.
We´ll examine at the treasures drawn from Museum Ludwig´s archive – the museum owns the largest collection of Chargeheimer´s photography – some of which have never before been published.
