Claes Oldenburg – Long Live Pop Art!
Claes Oldenburg is one of the BIG names in American Pop Art. His sculptures mostly take trite everyday objects as their starting point and add a surprising twist. You can see his huge sculptures in many places throughout the world – for example on the top of the Mayersche bookstore on Neumarkt! Ever noticed the gigantic, drippy ice-cream cone that someone accidentally dropped (on the top of the building)?
The exhibition at the Museum Ludwig presents the most comprehensive overview ever of the artistic development of Oldenburg from the late 1950s to the mid 1970s.
Because of Museum Ludwig’s own large collection of Oldenburg’s sculptures, the museum is the main lender and after the Guggenheim in Bilbao, the shows wanders to the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
