Dear ArtTalkers,

So happy 💖 to experience so many of you eager for art and exchange at our joyful April ArtTalk!

And we’ll continue this joyful journey with art! The upcoming June 2 ArtTalk is on the high-profile, expansive thought and work of the American sculptor with Japanese roots, Isamu Noguchi.

Between the glass facades of Southern California high-rise buildings, I recall Isamu Noguchi’s California Garden in my mind’s eye. A magical hidden place that invites quiet reflection and playful discovery. It’s been a number of years since I’ve visited the sculpture garden, but it still resonates in me! I’m very pleased to offer the next June 2 ArtTalk in Museum Ludwig on Isamu Noguchi’s fascinating life work.

Museum Ludwig is hosting the first extensive retrospective in Europe in over twenty years! It will cover all of Noguchi’s creative periods and practices with 150 very diverse and innovative works – from sculpture to furniture, lights to parks and ending in a monumental installation. The exhibition was organized and curated by Rita Kersting together with a contributions by the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern, and the Barbican in London and in partnership with the Lille Métropole Musée d’art moderne. The generosity of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum, New York helped make this stellar show possible.

Here is what Museum Ludwig has written about Noguchi:

“Noguchi is a great 20th sculptor, who is often better known for his iconic collaborations and design projects outside the strict domine of the fine arts, such as his coffee table for Hermann Miller, stage set for dancer Martha Graham, and Akari lights. His work was shaped by an expanded conception of sculpture and the question of human beings’ relationship to the earth, as well as his fascination with materials and technology.”

I’m really excited and delighted to introduce Noguchi’s work to you! It will be a journey of visual discovery and wonder 🤗
