“Pablo Picasso – Greatest Genius and Artistic Motor of the 20th century? Or Imposing Impostor?” Highlights, Appraisal and Evaluation.
Museum Ludwig
The Picasso Collection in Museum Ludwig is renowned far beyond Cologne´s boarders as one of the best and largest in Europe. A selection of highlights from this brilliant collection of over 180 original artworks and 700 prints – won´t be an easy task – but well worth it! We´ll begin chronologically working our way up through Picasso´s Blue and Rosa Periods, Cubism and beyond to his sculptural and ceramic pieces. We´ll use this itinerary as a springboard to consider questions about Picasso´s relevance for modern and contemporary art – is he the seminal artist of the 20th century? Did Picasso´s contributions provide decisive input for the stylistic development of modern art? Or was he just in the right place at the right time?
