Dear ArtTalkers
What makes sculpture different from painting? For one, it pulls us into space: we circle, step back, lean closer. Sculpture moves us — quite literally — as we move around it.
On September 4, our ArtTalk takes us strolling through Museum Ludwig’s permanent collection. Together we’ll pause in front of masterpieces, experiencing how form, light, and shadow change with every step.
Among them, we’ll meet Wilhelm Lehmbruck, who worked in Paris around 1900. His lyrical, melancholic female busts reflect both the elegance of classical traditions and the bold search for modern expression. Paris was then the beating heart of sculpture, with Rodin challenging conventions and young artists like Lehmbruck shaping a new, more emotional language of form.
Alongside Lehmbruck, we’ll encounter works by Hans Arp, Picasso, and George Segal — each asking us to see and feel sculpture differently.
💡 Why join? Because sculpture is not just something you look at.
It’s something you experience.
Join us on this journey through Museum Ludwig “Sculpture that moves you” as we move together through the galleries. Afterward, let’s share impressions over a drink, coffee or whatever ;) It’s about the art-human connection in the ArtTalk community and that means you❣️
👉 And if you can’t make it, save the date: November 6 for the special show “5 Freunde” at Museum Ludwig. It’s going to be an extravaganza!
Artfully yours,
Karla
