Blue: The Color of Infinity?
Museum Ludwig
What´s so appealing about the color blue?
Why is it by far people´s favorite color – although it is the “coldest” of all colors on the color wheel? Since the Middle Ages, artists have signified rank and heavenly grandeur with the semi- precious lapis lazuli which was ground to make the pigment. Can we determine, wandering through Museum Ludwig, how modern and contemporary artists use this color? What are its special connotations and what is the relationship of blue color to form? Can – as Wassily Kandinsky opined – spirituality be expressed through color? Yves Klein´s radiant blue art works will provide paramount examples of this artistic linking of blue color sensation and spiritual yearning.
