On Thursday, December 4, join our group of merry ArtTalkers at the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud for an special seasonal journey into the meaning of the color blue in medieval art. From Madonna’s robes to majestic altarpieces, blue was more than a pigment—it symbolized divinity, purity, and celestial grace.

💡 Explore how this exquisite hue shaped iconic works like Stefan Lochner’s Madonna in the Rose Garden, also known as the Kölsche Mona Lisa. Discover its connection to Advent and Christmas, as we reflect on how the past continues to inspire our festive traditions today. Marvel at masterpieces from Cologne’s world-famous medieval collection, including the Altarpiece of the Holy Cross and the gripping and bloody narrative of the Ursula Cycle, presented like an early comic strip😊

Ticket price included for Cologne citizens on long museum Thursday. We’ll meet at the back of the museum, near the entrance to the art. I’ll have an ArtTalk sign.
