Dear ArtTalkers,

I’d like to give you all a heads-up on the new “Ursula” (Schultze-Bluhm) retrospective.

The opening was attended by the press, Cologne art dignitaries, and many young art lovers.

Maybe those art lovers are not so familiar with Ursula’s art but were attracted by the excellent reviews – including one in the New York Times – on her binary surrealist approach that is as fascinating as it is demonic.

What I loved and will share with you at the ArtTalks (and for those of you away at Easter, there is an additional morning ArtTalk on Wednesday April 19th, sign up below)

  • The beautiful extravaganza of this sprawling, very professional show - you can lose yourself in Ursula’s work and worlds.
  • Transitions and changeability. Moments of surprise. Especially in the use of texture, pattern and material.
  • Invention, fantasy and impact of saturated colors flow into every space of the canvas, recalling dreams and visions.

As a coach, I invite my clients to envision a better future for themselves. To create a personal vision that acts as an individual roadmap. Ursula’s artwork is visionary in a similar way. Her roadmap is a visual story full of references to anecdotes, nature, myth, legends, and of course the Cologne biblical Ursula story.

And Ursula makes defiant painting. Defiance in an artistic sense. Defiantly creating transformative beauty that morphs from one thing to the next in the magical setting of Museum Ludwig*

Won’t you join us to discover the visual fascination 🔥 of the unconscious mind?

Artfully yours,
Karla Schlaepfer
